mcg to mL Calculator
mcg is a mass and mL is a volume, so converting between them needs the solution’s concentration. Enter the amount in mcg and the concentration to get the volume in mL and in U-100 syringe units.

Don’t know it? Use the reconstitution calculator: vial amount ÷ liquid added.
Used to round to the nearest marking you can actually read.
Enter the amount and the solution’s concentration.
Arithmetic only: it never suggests or assesses an amount. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
The formula
mL = mcg ÷ concentration (mcg per mL)U-100 units = mL × 100If your concentration is in mg/mL, multiply it by 1,000 to get mcg/mL first. The calculator converts units for you.
mcg to mL at common concentrations
| Amount | 1 mg/mL | 2 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 mcg | 0.10 mL (10) | 0.05 mL (5) | 0.04 mL (4) | 0.02 mL (2) |
| 250 mcg | 0.25 mL (25) | 0.125 mL (12.5) | 0.10 mL (10) | 0.05 mL (5) |
| 500 mcg | 0.50 mL (50) | 0.25 mL (25) | 0.20 mL (20) | 0.10 mL (10) |
| 1,000 mcg | 1 mL (100) | 0.50 mL (50) | 0.40 mL (40) | 0.20 mL (20) |
Don’t know your concentration? If you dissolved a vial yourself, it is the vial amount divided by the liquid added. The reconstitution calculator works it out from those two numbers.
Why “units” are not IU
The units printed on an insulin-style U-100 syringe are volume marks: 100 units is 1 mL, so 1 unit is 0.01 mL. They say nothing about the substance inside. IU (international units) measure biological activity and depend on the substance. More in insulin syringe units explained.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert mcg to mL?
Divide the amount in mcg by the concentration in mcg per mL. 250 mcg at 2,500 mcg/mL is 0.1 mL.
How many mcg are in 1 mL?
As many as the concentration says: 1 mL of a 2.5 mg/mL solution holds 2,500 mcg. Without a concentration there is no answer.
What is mcg on a 1 mL syringe?
A 1 mL U-100 syringe has 100 unit marks. Each mark holds the concentration ÷ 100: at 2,500 mcg/mL, each unit is 25 mcg.
1 mL is equal to how many units on an insulin syringe?
100 units on a U-100 syringe, which is the common kind. A U-40 syringe has 40 units per mL.
Why does the calculator need a concentration?
Because mcg measures mass and mL measures volume. The same 250 mcg can be 0.05 mL or 0.25 mL depending on how much liquid it is dissolved in.
