How it works

Each step shows whether the sources Peptide Library has reviewed include that kind of research. Counts are reviewed sources, not every study ever published. Reviews and programme summaries that describe human use are shown as "reported", not as trials, and registered trials without published results are listed but not counted. A higher step means research has progressed further; it does not mean a compound works better or is safer. Compounds whose evidence has not been reviewed yet show "Not reviewed" instead of a guess.

Peptide Library's Pemvidutide profile summarises 4 cited studies listed in the Science section, the compound's regulatory status, and research-protocol parameters reported for it. It is a research reference, not medical advice.

Pemvidutide dosage evidence

Pemvidutide has no approved dosage. Human dosing comes from Altimmune's trials of once-weekly injections under the skin of 1.2, 1.8 or 2.4 mg: in the IMPACT phase 2b trial in MASH with fibrosis, 1.2 mg and 1.8 mg without titration met the goal of MASH resolution at 24 weeks but not the fibrosis goal. A phase 3 MASH trial of 1.8 mg and 2.4 mg is recruiting.

Where sources disagree

  • IMPACT met one of its two primary endpoints (MASH resolution) but not the other (fibrosis improvement) at 24 weeks.
  • The code ALT-801 was also used for an unrelated interleukin-2 fusion protein studied in cancer. Papers and registry entries about that ALT-801 are not evidence about pemvidutide.
  • Pemvidutide is not FDA-approved.

Science

Mechanism of Action

Pemvidutide is a dual agonist at the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors with a deliberately weighted ratio favouring glucagon activity relative to other agents in the class. GLP-1 receptor activation reduces food intake through hypothalamic and brainstem circuits, while glucagon receptor activation increases hepatic energy expenditure and drives fatty-acid oxidation in the liver. That emphasis is the rationale for its investigation in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, where reducing hepatic lipid is the therapeutic target, as well as in obesity. It is investigational and not approved for any indication.

Pemvidutide: frequently asked questions

What is Pemvidutide?

Investigational dual agonist at the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors from Altimmune, weighted toward glucagon activity relative to others in its class. It is in development for obesity and for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, where reducing hepatic fat is the therapeutic target. Not FDA-approved, and efficacy and safety remain under investigation.

How does Pemvidutide work?

Pemvidutide is a dual agonist at the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors with a deliberately weighted ratio favouring glucagon activity relative to other agents in the class. GLP-1 receptor activation reduces food intake through hypothalamic and brainstem circuits, while glucagon receptor activation increases hepatic energy expenditure and drives fatty-acid oxidation in the liver.

Is Pemvidutide FDA approved?

No. Pemvidutide is investigational: it is in clinical development and has not been approved by the FDA for any indication. Investigational status means trials are ongoing or complete but regulatory review has not resulted in approval, and efficacy and safety are still being established.

What is the half-life of Pemvidutide?

Reported half-life for Pemvidutide is ~110 hours (EuPort™ albumin-binding domain; weekly dosing). Half-life describes how long the compound persists in circulation, not how long any effect lasts, and published figures vary with route of administration, formulation and the population studied.

Is Pemvidutide banned in sport?

Pemvidutide is recorded here as prohibited in sport. Athletes subject to anti-doping rules should check the current WADA Prohibited List directly, since it is revised annually and classifications change.

What peptides are similar to Pemvidutide?

Compounds most often compared with Pemvidutide include Retatrutide, Survodutide, Cotadutide and Mazdutide. They are grouped by shared mechanism or research area rather than by equivalence, and their regulatory status and evidence base differ.
