# How Much Bacteriostatic Water to Add

There is no single correct volume. The amount in the vial stays the same however much bacteriostatic water you add; the volume only sets the concentration. The practical choice is a volume that makes your amounts easy to measure on your syringe.

## What the volume changes (and what it doesn’t)

| Liquid added | Concentration | Volume for 500 mcg | U-100 units |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 mL | 10 mg/mL | 0.05 mL | 5 |
| 2 mL | 5 mg/mL | 0.10 mL | 10 |
| 2.5 mL | 4 mg/mL | 0.125 mL | 12.5 |
| 4 mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 0.20 mL | 20 |
| 5 mL | 2 mg/mL | 0.25 mL | 25 |

Every row holds the same 10 mg. Only the volume per amount changes.

## Picking a volume that measures cleanly

- **Land on a marking.** A result of 10 or 20 units reads exactly; 12.5 units on a syringe marked every 2 units does not.
- **Avoid tiny volumes.** Below a few units, one marking is a large share of the amount. More liquid spreads it out.
- **Stay within one fill.** A volume larger than the syringe means more than one fill per portion.
- **Keep it simple.** Round numbers (1, 2, 2.5, 3, 5 mL) make the concentration easy to check by hand.

Try volumes in the [reconstitution calculator](https://bestpeptidecalculator.app/reconstitution-calculator): it shows the nearest marking for each and warns when a reading would be more than 5% off.

## Working backwards from a target volume

`liquid to add = target volume × amount in the vial ÷ amount you choose`

Example: for 500 mcg to fill 0.2 mL (20 units) from a 10 mg vial: 0.2 × 10,000 ÷ 500 = 4 mL.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does adding more bacteriostatic water make it weaker?

It lowers the concentration, so each amount takes more volume. The total amount in the vial is unchanged.

### How much bacteriostatic water for a 10 mg vial?

Any volume works mathematically. 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL; 4 mL gives 2.5 mg/mL. Pick the one that puts your amount on a clear marking.
